SDW Volunteers

At the beginning of 2009, the shareholders of Santoro, Driggs, Walch, Kearney, Holley & Thompson decided to provide both time and funds to help those in our community who may be especially vulnerable, either by virtue of age or economic status. In that regard, we worked closely with Louise Helton, State Director of “Communities in Schools of Nevada”, who helped us identify the good work being performed at Reynaldo Martinez Elementary School.

After meeting with Louise and both Principal Felice Kadlub and Office Manager Ana Charles, a volunteer reading program was coordinated by which over 20 volunteers from our law firm have had the opportunity to read to numerous classes and many dozens of students. We have all appreciated the warm and welcome reception which we have received and the many teachers (and their students) who invited us to read in their classes.

In addition to reading, the Firm will be exploring other ways in which our volunteers may be able to contribute and to enhance the students’ sense of community in Las Vegas, to hopefully expose them to a variety of choices for future careers, to provide some mentoring and individualized assistance, and to support the School’s teaching staff.
